Serge is inspired by how we become attached to objects questioning what would it be like to only own objects we really need or objects we only have a connection with? Ward is working with traditional denim; a fabric that allows for the end user to engage with it through fades, creases and control over colour in washes. People speak of denim becoming like a second skin and of sleeping in jeans to encourage creases and fades. Why do people have this attachment to denim? Is it because it allows each person to create a truly unique garment that has been transformed by their body? Ward is developing this concept through weaving denim on a hand loom and a industrial shuttle loom combining traditional denim weaving techniques with untraditional blends such as wool.
